I keep telling my friend, who is apparently a photographer that he should be blogging, sharing his wonderful clicks. Nowadays, more and more shooters can be seen with blogs and probably almost everyone has started one at some point in their life. But have you ever thought about how critical that blog is, especially if you are a photographer or aspire to become one? Alright, let’s figure it out right here. I hope this will be a quick shout out for my photographer friends as well as for everyone who is a photography aspirant and do not know where to start.
So, possibly you already have a blog or you might be considering starting one. Either way, read on to find out the reasons why photographers should be blogging.
Reason No. 1
Photography is a personal service, by that I mean, your clients are letting you into their life’s big moments, so, they require to feel a confidence and comfort with your kind of photography. A blog is the perfect tool that gives you the platform to show who you are, your photography style and what value you can offer to a prospective client. It will give them a look into your motivations and also how you treat your clients. And, obviously, it will showcase your recent and best work. A portfolio site is another option, but it takes a lot of maintenance and regular updates. Whereas, blogs will allow you to present your newest work or exclusively what you want your perspective client to see.
Reason No. 2
Blogs are also great from SEO (Search Engine Optimization) point of view, since they are frequent added to and contain lots of interesting content, which Google loves! Believe me on this, a frequently updated and well-maintained blog will shoot up your search rankings higher than a website will.
Reason No. 3
People love seeing their own pictures on places like a website, social media page or yes, their photographer’s blog. They will love to share the pictures of them and the blog link, with all their friends and family. This then, turns out to be an awesome word-of-mouth marketing strategy for you. Right? Taking out the time to make posts for people you click and sharing why you enjoyed working with them, will be appreciated, for sure!
Reason No. 4
Once you start with it, the blog will subsequently help you start establishing your own brand. The narrative style of a blog allows you to get your voice across. This is nothing like a portfolio or a photo-sharing site like Flickr or Instagram or Facebook, where people won’t notice you most of the times, except if you have a strong marketing agency behind your back. Having your personal brand is super valuable.
Reason No. 5
The best advantage, a blog is simple to start, easy to maintain and often free or at least cheaper than a dedicated website.
