Have you in your wildest dreams once fancied of having a sneaker that ties itself? If yes then Nike has made your dream come true!
Nike’s HyperAdapt 1.0 is a smart sneaker that comes with a sensor, LED light, battery, motor, and cable system that intelligently fine-tunes the fit based on an algorithmic pressure equation.
Nike’s HyperAdapt 1.0 Auction
A Hong Kong auction house sold a pair of these Future-inspired Nike Mag shoes for a whopping $104,000! This auction made these sneakers possibly the most expensive pair ever!
Besides, adding to the hype and hysteria of this iconic shoe, the auction was to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), an organization dedicated to supporting Parkinson’s disease research. The MJFF charitable organization has been named in honor of the Back to the Future star.
Following the Hong Kong auction, there are two more to look forward to- one occurring in London later this month and the other in New York City at the MJFF benefit gala at the Waldorf Astoria on November 12, 2016.
Nike will give away 100 pairs of self-lacing sneakers at just $10 each!
To keep the excitement kicking, Nike also announced a lottery in which the company will give away nearly 100 pairs of a limited-edition version of the Nike Mag sneakers to a number of lucky ones.
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 4 until Oct. 11, a sign up with $10 was all that was needed to get a pair!
Similar to the auctions, all proceeds of the sign up will be donated to the MJFF. The winners will be announced on Oct. 17, 2016.
What’s so exciting about Nike’s HyperAdapt 1.0?
These futuristic shoes have the following features that are worth a mention-
- Embedded actuators with pressure monitors which help the shoe tighten according to the shape of your foot!
- Each shoe has an internal cable system and a pressure sensor in the sole. When you put on the shoe, the sensor in the sole gets activated and the laces start to tighten depending on the foot shape and weight distribution.
- You can also fine-tune the shoe’s settings using a pair of buttons on the side of the shoe.
- LED lights in the heel light up when the shoes are tightening and to indicate low battery.
When these shoes are hitting the shelves?
HyperAdapt 1.0 sneakers are expected to hit the stores on November 28, 2016. These smart shoes however can only be purchased in select US stores. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
