If you spend a large amount of your time on the Internet, like I do, I’m sure you’ve at least once came across those annoying pop-up advertisements in the most unexpected forms that auto-play in the middle of your work. I faced this quite often, while I spend almost 8 hours of my day working on the internet. It finally started to get highly maddening and I decided I had to do something to resolve this. Frankly, I’m not a very tech savvy kinds and I needed help.
Then I was told that these ads are almost virtually unavoidable, but we can take action to dodge them using a browser plugin. And here I am, happily working again. So, if you are also facing a similar issue with your browser, here is what you can do:
There’s this particular ad blocking plugin for the Google Chrome browser, called AdBlock Plus. It works in the background without us having to direct it.
- So, start by opening up your Google Chrome browser.
- Now, visit the Chrome Web Store and search for the Adblock Plus Extension page.
- There’s this blue button that says “Add to Chrome” on the top of the window. Click it and the extension will be downloaded automatically.
- And that’s all!
Really, that’s all to it. You won’t require restarting the browser to get the extension up and running. Though, to make sure it is there, look for a red “stop” sign on the top corner of the window. This gives you so much relief.
While we do not really need to see it, but we can click on this stop icon to perceive data saved on which ads are being blocked on specific pages. You can also see an option that lets you unblock pages or entire websites. And another thing you must know – there can be some content that won’t be consumable with Adblock Plus on. This happens depending on the source and format of the sites. However, if you run into such a problem, you must click on the AdBlock icon and uncheck the option that reads “Enabled on this site” to turn ad-blocking off for that particular site. Then, if you want, you can re-enable it later. You also need to refresh the page after this change and you’ll find the page working normally.
Okay, in case this doesn’t work that well for you, I know another one. You might want to try an alternative option which is Poper Blocker Pro.
This is another excellent tool, but it’s very simple. This one specifically targets pop- ups instead of everything and I’d highly suggest this for those of you aren’t facing frequent ads. This one gives you a quick notification as it blocks an ad. Also, just like the AdBlocker Plus, it allows white-listing and specific site control.
I hope this helps you get rid of the annoyance that is ad pop-ups.
